presentation

scobdocs is a cultural, as well as a research project on landscape. Through the narrations or the filming of a series of short documentaries, we try to understand the link between places we encounter and the people who experience them or, like us, walk through them. In this particular spot is where we rest, hoping to capture the landscape that appears in front of us.

scobdocs believes, as Goethe formulated about 200 years ago, that the most specific and extended benefit for mankind is only the result of great and selfless efforts that do not demand a reward but, in return, do not deliver a useful outcome for humanity, neither at the end of a year, nor a decade or century.

THE DOCUMENTARY

The Landskating documentary, directed by Kike Barberá, written by Oscar Blasco, Sergi Carulla and Kike Barberá, and produced by SCOB, was shot between 2013 and 2015. During this period, citizen participation processes were carried out, conducted by youngsters themselves, as well as the construction of the first three urban sports parks in the city of Barcelona – the Landskate Parks.

PROJECTS

SCOB, a studio led by Sergi Carulla and Óscar Blasco, has designed up to five spaces for skateboarding and for other forms of urban skating, in Barcelona. They are located in such contrasting areas of the city as the Mar Bella beach (Poble Nou), the Áurea Cuadrado gardens (Les Corts), the Ronda de Dalt (Nou Barris), the Trinitat road junction (St. Andreu), or in the nearby municipality of El Prat del Llobregat. These Urban Sports Parks represent a new paradigm for public space – the new plazas for the city of the future.

SOCIAL ACTION

To share the experience of these projects, SCOB organizes outreach activities. The objective is to make them known and explain their transformative capacity through their relationship with the landscape, with people, with their daily lives... The actions take place in civic centres, libraries, youth clubs, etc. Also, in the academic and exhibition area, Landskate Parks have been presented as successful experiences in the creation of a new generation of public spaces.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

The Landskate Parks have received numerous awards, among which the IOC/IAKS prize, the most important international architecture award for sports, recreational and leisure facilities, under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.

The Landskating documentary has been selected in several film and architecture festivals, and has been screened in more than 15 cities across Europe and Latin America.

OWN LIFE

Since their opening day, the Landskate Parks of Barcelona, have become a meeting point, as well as a point of reference for all generations and user disciplines. They have respected and revitalised the areas in which they have been built and have quickly generated several new and rewarding social and urban dynamics.

Picapedrers is a short documentary film produced by Sergi Carulla and Oscar Blasco and directed by Kike Barberà. It was filmed in the basalt quarry of Castellfollit de la Roca, thanks to the valuable collaboration of Raúl Ortiz, the last stonecutter. The documentary Picapedrers is a journey through these stone landscapes and the people who inhabit them. But deep down, about the origin of the materials that build our cities.

Un árbol en la casa es un viaje de largo recorrido hacia lo cercano. Es un libro que pierde las hojas; otras nuevas las substituyen en un proceso de continua renovación. Es un tratado sobre plantas, animales, hombres, ciudades y campos; un tratado sin principio ni final. Es lo que dijo una vez un hippie cuando le preguntaron, "¿Dónde vives?". "Tengo un árbol que parece un palacio. Creo que no me lo merezco", respondió.

Empezando por su edición, Un árbol en la casa, es un libro que combina fantasía y precisión, fruto del entusiasmo y de la seriedad que practica su autor, tanto en la literatura como en la arquitectura. No podía ser de otra manera al ser Oscar Blasco un personaje de una pieza. Fantasía y precisión! Mágica combinación de dos elementos difíciles de reunir… y que, una vez juntos, se necesitan el uno en el otro. El círculo se cierra.
